BALKAN GAMES/CHAMPIONSHIPS
An unofficial Balkan Games was first held in 1929 and officially sanctioned in 1930. It was held each year until 1940 and then re-introduced on an annual basis (with the occasional break), in 1953. In addition two unofficial events were held in 1946 and 1947, the latter also contested by Hungary and entitled the "Balkan and Central European Games". In recent years the various sports have been held at different venues/times and, as such, the Games have now become a loose collection of Balkan Championships.
