Happy Gudhi Padwa (गुढीपाडवा)


Gudhi Padwa (गुढीपाडवा) is celebrated on the first day of the Chaitra month, and is celebrated as New Year's Day by Maharashtrians and Hindu Konkanis ( called as Samvatsar ( Sausar ) Padvo or Yugadi by Konkanis ).Gudhi Padva is observed mainly in Maharashtra, Goa and parts of Karnataka. This is also first day of Marathi Calendar. The Sindhi festival of Cheti Chand is celebrated same day.The most important event on the day is the hoisting of the Gudhi (victory flags) in front of the homes.

The first Holy festival, marking the beginning of the New year, new month and new day for Hindus falls on Chaitra Shukla Pratipada. It is known that Gudhi Padwa, Ugadi. Gudi Padwa is Celebrated on the first day of Chaitra month and is celebrated as New Year day by Maharashtrians and Hindu Konkanis.The day is celebrated with a promising bath, followed by decorating the door with a 'Toran "who perform ritual worship and Hoisting Dhwaja or Gudhi. Gudi Padwa The word means the end of the harvest season and the beginning of another.The houses are cleaned before the festival. New clothes are worn on this day. Colorful rangoli designs are drawn at entrances. It is a family gathering and Maharashtrian delicacies are prepared for everything. The Maharashtrians do Puran Poli or sweet rotis, soonth Pak and usal.Gudhi Padwa is considered a very promising day.
