BALKAN GAMES/CHAMPIONSHIPS
An unofficial Balkan Games was first held in 1929 and officially sanctioned in 1930. It was held each year until 1940 and then re-introduced on an annual basis (with the occasional break), in 1953. In addition two unofficial events were held in 1946 and 1947, the latter also contested by Hungary and entitled the "Balkan and Central European Games". In recent years the various sports have been held at different venues/times and, as such, the Games have now become a loose collection of Balkan Championships.

Poland: XXIX Olympic Games Beijing (Pekin) 2008

Four different stamps depicting different events of Olympic.
Sender : Kazimierz Roman Leszczynski (Poland)
The stamps issued to commemorate the olympic games present 4 out of the 28 olympic disciplines: swimming, volleyball, the pole vault and fencing - it is those particular sports that our representatives are most hopeful to win medals in. The stamps are placed together in a block on the background of a traditional Chinese wood carving and the word "Beijing" written in its original form. An occasional date stamp will be used, as a matter of exception, in the 88 Warsaw Post Office (at 10 Melomanów Str.). Eight is considered a lucky number in China. It is no coincidence that the games started on 8 August 2008, at 8.08 pm local time. Number "8" was also specially emphasised in the design of the Polish Post stamps.

What is Equestrian?
Equestrian events were included in the Olympic Games for the first time in 1900 and then in 1912, in a format very similar to that which was used at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. In the past, the three-day event (Eventing) was restricted to military officers, while the jumping and dressage competitions were open to civilians, but only a handful of civilian riders competed up to 1948. Up to that time, the growth of modern sport had been rapid, but relatively few competitors were involved in international competitions. They all knew each other and the judges and were accepting of local variations to the fairly simple rules which existed. With the inclusion of the sport in the Olympic Games, it became obvious that some internationally recognised rules for the three Olympic disciplines were essential. In May 1921, delegates from 10 national Equestrian organisations met in Lausanne to discuss the formation of an international federation. Equestrian consists of three disciplines: Jumping, Dressage and Eventing (Three-Day Event).
